3D printed fountain pen by Pjotr with price tag of € 6,000
The first ever 3D printed fountain pen is here courtesy SOLide (SOLutions in Design Engineering for 3D printing) founded Pjotr (a.k.a Rein van der Mast) who hails from Netherlands. The fountain pen is themed as Cavalry and the detailed 3D shape with very profound inscription “à nos femmes, à nos chevaux” meaning “to our wives, to our horses” makes it an exquisite piece of artwork. This 3D printed fountain pen is made from light-weight titanium compound and to enhance the surface look it is coated with enamel. Interestingly Pjotr says that the fountain pen can be customized according to the user’s needs, for example the user can inscribe his own name on the pen.
The total thickness of the fountain pen is 0.3 millimeters and not only 3D printing but other manufacturing techniques from companies like CNC Consult, Innplate, LayerWise and Materialise make this pen a true 3D printing marvel of modern times. The minimum price tag of € 6,000 ( depending on the customizations you opt for) may seem a lot to the average user but one also has to consider the amount of work put into the making of this 3D printed fountain pen. If you do happen to buy one for yourself then you’ll get it in a very high-end fountain pen case.
