Span Smartwatch concept portrays how smart a watch should be
All the smartwatches around are trying desperately to get as tech savvy as they can but without much realization that ultimately a smartwatch as to be more of a wristwatch than a smartphone or a tablet. Perhaps Moto 360 smartwatch has so been the most practical smartwatch design that appeals to the eye, and also manages to strike the perfect balance between a wristwatch and notification updating gizmo. Hang-on, Box Clever’s Span smartwatch concept might just nullify that statement. Designed to maintain an apt balance between analog clock and digital notifier, this smartwatch is the brainchild of Bret Recor and Seth Murray.
The smartwatch has jump hour movements so that hour hand moves on the top half and the minutes hand along the bottom. For the basic smartwatch functions there is a perforated metal grill that has backlit screen for displaying the notifications, while answering/rejecting a call is done by a spinning ring on outer edge of the watch face.
Span Smartwatch has a unique design which allows it to hide the perforated band for notification display, turning it into a cool wristwatch. The watch casing is made from steel and ceramic material for a very realistic looking watch that attends to all your basic needs while on the go. Be it taking up calls, reading notifications, toggling world time settings in digital display or getting calendar reminders.
The smartwatch is big on battery saving too, as it has very few things to display and they are very tactically organized. For example your smartwatch screen should display notifications only when they pop-up on your smartphone. Other than that it should function as a normal mechanical watch that uses very less battery power.
The only thing needed to bring Span Smartwatch to life is get it into manufacturing as it doesn’t require very high-end technology input, keeping with the simplistic yet useful theme.
According to Seth Murray
The concept is ready to go. If someone comes in and says, ‘we love your watch and we want to make it,’ it’s not going to change radically.
