Richard Mille RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire comes with a two million dollar price tag
Richard Mille, Swiss manufacturer of luxury watches has introduced the all new RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire with a hefty price tag of $2,020,000. The luxury watch company has amazed us in the past too with their unique and exquisite timepieces such as the RM 52-01 Nano-Ceramic Skull Tourbillon watch and the RM 59-01 Yohan Blake.
One of the most complex creation of the watchmaker till now, the RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire has taken design ideas from the RM 27-01 Nadal watch. Initially sapphire is used for the watch dials only but for the RM 56-02, Richard Mille has used the crystal for the assembling the whole watch case.
Made entirely of sapphire crystal, the three-part case is hard and scratch resistant. It took 40 days of around-the-clock machining for the creation of a single piece of RM 56-02 case. This means 960 hours of work on one case only. Besides that, the sapphire bridges demands an extra 400 hours, thus a total of 1,500 hours of sapphire machining goes into every single piece of the Richard Mille RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire watch. The grade 5 titanium baseplate is suspended from a system of pulleys and a 0.35mm braided cable.
The Richard Mille RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire watch is a limited edition timepiece of only 10 units, and will be launched at the annual Watches&Wonders exhibition in Hong Kong later this year.
