Legendary industrial designer Marc Newson joins Apple team
Apple has recently been busy staffing up. Apple had earlier acquired Beast Music, then hired Angela Ahrendts, a former Burberry C.E.O., Yves Saint Laurent’s Paul Deneve, and Nike’s Ben Shaffer. The legendary industrial designer Marc Newson is the new gem in the designer collection of Apple. Newson is one of the most celebrated industrial designers, and his range of product designs varies from shoes to jetpacks, clothing, automotive, furniture etc. He is well known for his versatility in designs. Especially, his bent towards biomorphism in styling has been well admired.
He joined Apple as part of senior vice president of design Jonathan Ive’s team. The friendship between Newson and Ive is well known to the industrial designing world. They had even collaborated on U2 singer Bono’s(RED) auction in November to raise funds for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa, which totaled $26.2 millions.
According to the reports, Newson will be working on Apple products while he continuous to live in the United Kingdom. Although, it’s not clear on what products he will be working on, but he is expected to make frequent visits to the company’s Cupertino, California, headquarters. Newson won’t stop working on external projects other than Apple. May be, he’ll take up the job to finish Apple’s smart watch, which was expected to be revealed in September this year.
