Everything you need to know about Apple iPhone 6 – slimmest iPhone ever
As rumors had it, Apple launched two new models of the iPhone at its media event. The remarkably lightweight and immensely thin new iPhones include the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Proving the rumors true, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced iPhone 6 (which looks indistinguishable from what the rumors had shown) with a slightly bigger 4.7-inch screen. Powered by a new A8 processor and embedded with new sensors and chips, the iPhone 6 measures on 6.9mm deep, which makes it the slimmest Apple iPhones till date.
The iPhone 6 looks somewhat different from the previous models. It does away with the sharp edges, we’ve been accustomed to, with more rounded sides. Though, in overall appearance there is not much difference from the iPhone 5S. Yes, it’s bigger in size. Apple has moved its power button to the side, but hasn’t really changed the location of the volume keys.
Rumors had it that iPhone 6 will feature a sapphire crystal display. Sadly it’s not the case, nonetheless, the iPhone 6 gets a screen which is protected by ion-strengthened glass.
The iPhone 6 screen supports a 1,334×750 pixels resolution, which Apple touts as the Retina HD display. Interestingly, the phone gets a horizontal screen view for the home screen.
To help everyone take better photos with their iPhone 6, Apple has included more features to its 8MP iSight camera. It gets a new sensor with more focus pixel, more exposure control and improved face detection.
iPhone 6 will capture 1080p HD at 60 fps and will shoot time-lapse videos along with slow motion videos at 240-fps. iPhone 6’s FaceTime HD camera will now capture 81 percent more light and shoot 10 photos per second in burst mode.
The 1810mAh battery of the iPhone 6 boasts 10-11 hours of screen-on time with Wi-Fi and while watching videos and about 50 hours of audio playback time. It’s an achievement compared to what the iPhone 5S can muster.
Apps and features
The iPhone 6 is larger than the other pervious iPhones in size, but it wouldn’t feel large in your hands, thanks to its one-handed mode which allows you to adjust the interface slightly.
The iPhone 6 comes with Health app, which will integrate with Nike’s fitness app, and also features built-in barometer to tie up with health apps and location. It also comes with HealthKit, dedicated app to allow API developers to sync and share health data with each other.
The iPhone 6 will come with Apple Pay – new mobile payment feature to allow users to make payments for low-priced products directly from the phone using NFC wireless chip.
Pricing and availability
The Apple iPhone 6 will be available in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants, each priced at $199, $299 and $399 (on two year contract) respectively. Pre-orders for the iPhone 6 begin on September 12, while the phone will start shipping globally from September 19.
