Sony SmartEyeglass Developer Edition SED-E1 announced for pre-order
After the launch of prototype Sony SmartEyeglass SDK in September 2014, all eyes were set as to when Sony would release the developers’ version. Good news has arrived as Sony has announced The SmartEyeglass Developer Edition SED-E1 augmented reality glasses which developers can explore. These HUD glasses can be combined with SmartEyeglass sensors, camera and smartphone features for a very unique hands-free experience.
The smart glasses have been developed keeping in mind the view-able content like live games, concerts, tours etc. Not to forget that they are ideal for viewing driving directions, taking up calls or simply sending a voice message to friends nearby. This is made possible with the augmented reality functionality that superimposes text, symbols and images into your natural field of view through the glasses.
All this comes courtesy the holographic waveguide technology that enables super thin augmented reality lenses measuring 3.0mm that have highest level of transparency at 85% and brightness for a very clear vision. The glasses will have low energy consumption monochrome display that delivers high luminance of up to 1,000 cd//m2.
Along with that the glasses weighing just 77 grams will have the customary features like accelerometer, gyro, electronic compass, brightness sensor, NFC, microphone and touch sensor controls.
Sony SmartEyeglass Developer Edition SED-E1 is going to be available for purchase in ten countries from March 2015, while the pre-order can be placed right now in UK and Germany. And as a developer, the possibilities for developing AR apps is limitless.
