LG develops high-quality smartphone display that consumes less power

LG is looking to create a niche for itself in the smartphone market with new technology for the displays of these mobile devices. LG have announced a Quad High Definition (QHD) LCD panel for smartphones that is going to stiffen the competition in high-end of the spectrum. LG claims that this new display technology will be huge leap in features like color gamut, brightness, contrast ratio, touch function, power consumption and thinness. The 5.5-inch QHD LCD panel loaded with IPS technology will be used in upcoming LG phones slated to be released by the end of this month.

A resolution of 1440 x 2560 on a 5.5-inch screen is impressive since it is almost four times the resolution of HD displays offered for this panel size. The display is going to be a boon for the Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology which drastically improves touch response and is capable of working even with water droplets on the screen. Moreover the screen is 30 percent brighter and has contrast ratio almost 50 percent more for perfect viewing in outdoor conditions, and that too without increase in the power consumption!

The high color gamut of the screen is achieved by combining a blue LED chip with red and green phosphors. In this display the touch sensor is embedded within the LCD, unlike the conventional LCD displays. Along with all these technologies, the photo-alignment technology makes use of UV light for formation of liquid crystal alignment layer in display panel for a higher contrast ratio. This means a sharper image quality with deeper blacks and brighter colors.
