Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch gets another teaser before IFA 2015
As expected, Samsung gave another sneak peak of their new smartwatch that doesn’t require a smartphone to sync its major functions. Yes, I’m talking about the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch that looks the next competition for Moto 360 smartwatch that by far looks the most elegant smartwatch in town. Ahead of the IFA 2015 event in Berlin, Germany, Samsung is elevating the anticipation for their flagship wearable as they announced the Gear S2 smartwatch in Seoul, Korea.
The Tizen OS smartwatch has a 1.2-inch circular screen Super AMOLED display with 360 x 360 resolution (@ 302 ppi) and is powered by a 1-GHz dual core processor and assisted by 512MB RAM. To make sure that the watch is not required to be connected to a smartphone to function, Samsung has fitted it with industry first, e-SIM with voice capability which has 3G capabilities. You can check notifications, calendar, e-mails, news and send text to other devices directly from the wrist.
JK Shin, CEO and Head of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Business said;
The Samsung Gear S2 reflects Samsung’s most progressive innovation. It is the perfect complement for any occasion, easily taking you from day to night, from work to workout—and ensuring that you get more out of every moment in your day, by making it smarter and ultimately more personal and fun.
As a convention, Gear S2 will have native fitness tracking functions with 24-hour activity log to check daily progress and patterns. There is the feature for NFC technology mobile payments which will allow users to make payments without much hassle. The smartwatch will have wireless charging option which will juice-up the wearable to last for almost 2-3 days before requiring another recharge. When launched, the smartwatch will come with the option to change watch faces and a variety of other apps to explore full potential of hardware.
This fresh new approach towards a smartwatch design and UI is exuberated by the custom UX, rotating bezel and a circular design which looks quite sporty. The smartwatch will come in two options – Gear S2 classic and the upbeat Gear S2. The classic model coming in black finish and genuine leather is targeted towards users who want native watch like functions and feel in the wearable, while the other model will come in Dark Gray band/white band options and is targeted towards the young urban audience who like a sporty and cool look.
