Three Star Wars-themed Boeing Jets will fly you around the world
If there is one thing Star Wars fans are really passionate about, it’s flying! To fly all aficionados in Dreamliners, All Nippon Airways (ANA), one of Japan’s largest airlines, has launched first of its three Star Wars-themed Boeing planes for international and domestic flying. ANA had first announced its Star Wars-themed planes back in April this year after having signed a five year promotion license contract with The Walt Disney (Japan) for the Star Wars brand. The Star War ANA Jets being launched in tie-up with December release of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ will soon be flying you around the world with a lot of other things to offer. Let’s take a look at the three themed Boeing dreamliners.
R2-D2 ANA Jet – its here and ready to fly
Living up to its claim of introducing first Star Wars-themed livery featuring R2-D2 on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in autumn; ANA introduced the first plane in its special series dubbed R2-D2 ANA Jet on September 15 at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, US.
The 215 seat 787-9 Dreamliner is scheduled to go into service on October 18.
The R2-D2 ANA Jet is scheduled to service on international routes – starting initially with flight NH116 between Tokyo and Vancouver. Soon the plane will be available on other routes including Seattle, San Jose, Munich, Paris, Brussels, Sydney and Beijing to name a few.
R2-D2 ANA Jet is the first commercial aircraft to feature Star Wars character on its exterior.
BB-8 ANA Jet – new character on plane’s exterior
We’ve all seen the BB-8 droid, new character from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens coming to theaters this December. Soon we will see the character painted on the outside of a Boeing aircraft.
The BB-8 ANA Jet is the next Star Wars-themed plane to go in service for the Japanese airliner. The plane will be Boeing 777-300 featuring BB-8 livery and is scheduled for international flights, chiefly between Japan and North America (exact routes are yet to be announced). Fans can keep tab on the schedules at ANA’s website.
Star Wars ANA Jet – Lovely combo of BB-8 and R2-D2
Third and the final themed aircraft in the fleet is the Star Wars ANA Jet, which will be designed primarily for domestic Japanese routes.
The Star Wars ANA Jet which will be a Boeing 767-300 will feature livery of BB-8 and R2-D2 on either sides of the jet. In November, we learn, the Star Wars ANA Jet will start flying on domestic routes in Japan.
The theme is not just limited to the exterior of the planes alone. As part of the agreement with Walt Disney, ANA Star Wars-themed planes’ fleet will also feature in-flight decorations – Star War-themed headrest covers, cups and paper napkins.
The agreement also makes ANA the only airlines in the world to feature all six released Star Wars films in-flight, as part of the special plane’ in-flight entertainment on international routes.
