As far as we know, the world loves gadgets that can do all the tracking and keep you abreast your fitness routines. Fitness trackers are good, heart rate monitors are even better and smartwatches are obviously stealing the limelight. So why not have a pair of dumbbells which do all the counting for you and keep you on track for goals? Bowflex thinks along the same lines and has revealed a pair of dumbbells which counts every rep you’ve done and the weight lifted for your fitness regime. Bowflex SelectTech 560 Dumbbells were shown-off at CES 2016 in Las Vegas and yes you guessed it right, they are smartphone connected via an app.

These smart dumbbells come with the option of toggling the weight from 5-25 pounds or 25-60 pounds in 2.5 pound and 5 pound increment respectively. Loaded with three-dimensional trainer tech (simply put an integrated accelerator), the dumbbell focuses on your reps, not only the number but also the right technique. A properly performed rep is indicated by audio notification as well as visually on the small display screen on the dumbbells. The number of reps then translate into the calories burnt which can be viewed on Bowflex companion app.

A set of Bowflex SelectTech 560 Dumbbells will set you back $499 with the extra weight option costing around $249. Now, the real question is would one be buying such an expensive pair of dumbbells? For newbies it might sound a fair option but for pros it might not be of that much help. The hefty price is also a downer and will only lure a select section of fitness freaks.
