Sony shoots amazing 48K 360-degree video using a dozen Xperia Z5 Compact phones
We haven’t been able to get our hands on the Sony Xperia Z5 yet, but from what we learn through early reviews, the video and camera quality of the 23-megapixel shooter on the Z5 is commendable, especially in 4K. Now, to showcase the abilities of a similar camera on the Z5’s little brother Xperia Z5 Compact; Sony has created a 48K 360 degree video using a dozen Z5 Compact’s rigged together. The footage from each smartphone is then edited and put together to form a 360 degree interactive video, which shows the phone cameras capabilities. The video was premiered on Sony’s horizon screen above the company booth in CES 2016.
The video was shot on a photography trip to Rise Ski & Snowboard Festival in Les Deux Alpes, France. Sony had a specially designed 3D printed rig, wherein 12 Xperia Z5 Compact smartpones were mounted to simultaneously film the amazing snow capped mountains and slopes of the Alps, stunning panoramas and skiers performing amazing stunts, all in 4K. The video is more exciting since you can interact with it. You can drag the video with mouse or finger if you’re using a touchscreen.
