MWC 2016: HTC Vive VR headset announced with price tag of $799

HTC wants to make their VR headset flawless and that’s why they kept a hold on the final commercially available version. They promised the final version of Oculus Rift competitor by April, but it looks like Christmas has come early. HTC has announced that the commercial version of Vive powered by Steam VR and developed in partnership with Valve is going to be up for pre-order on 29 February that is 4 days from now.

The final version has innovative features building on the ones introduced in Vive Pre. It comes with integrated phone functionality and lets you stay connected with the real world at the same instant as you are immersed in virtual world. This feature allows you to receive calls, check text messages, send replies and check upcoming calendar invites without even taking the VR headset off. Also there is cutout to keep all the cables tidily in place. The look has also been revamped a little with lighthouse tracking boxes having glossy black finish while the I/O box adorning a matte finish.

There are going to be a bit of branding changes too with the Vive Pre logo giving way to HTC logo. HTC Vive headset is going to be priced at a steep $799 which is more than the $599 Oculus Rift. For that much amount you’ll get two room sensors, two wireless controllers and two VR titles to kick-start you VR experience right out of the box.
