Trials of Tatooine – Star Wars VR experience with HTC Vive headset

Star Wars VR Trials of Tatooine

Lucasfilm’s R&D wing ILMxLab is working on a room-scale Star Wars experiment set in virtual reality and they released a video showing how amazing it is. Using HTC Vive VR headset, the wearer is transported to Luke Skywalker’s home planet after the defeat of the Galactic Empire. Dubbed as ‘Trials on Tatooine’, this VR experience was revealed to a group of journalists at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. This is a unique way to experience Star Wars as you fit into the shoes of an unnamed Padawan holding a Lightsaber.

You wear the headset and walk around in a 15×15 foot space to experience what it would be like to stand amidst the intense battle as TIE Fighters and Stormtroopers make life hard for you. To make the experience even more real, the room is rigged with surround sound system. That is reported to be crazy when Millennium Falcon makes the landing. And yes, R2D2 makes a short appearance during the sequence.

The ultimate aim of Trials on Tatooine is to make a larger and long-lasting VR experience where you immerse into the super galactic battle. Having said that, the official trailer looks cool and one’s who experienced it were impressed.
