Sharp’s RoboHon interactive robot is also a smartphone – Price $1,800
Sharp has been in the process of building a smart robot that is blessed with cuteness overload. Now the company has announced that it is taking pre-orders for RoboHon, in Japan of course for starters. That is good news but with a twist. RoboHon is going to burn a hole in your pocket as it is priced at 198,000 Yen (approx. $1,800) which is hard to swallow. And if you remember, this robot also doubles as your smartphone for taking calls.
Of course you do get value for money as this cute robot talks, dances and eventually makes a permanent spot in the corner of your heart. That’s not it, the robot will further demand $6 a month for its voice recognition feature to interact in the most natural way possible.
Android 5.0 powered RoboHon is going to be available on May 26th in Japan with availability in other countries to follow soon. To make sure that the robot doesn’t seem like a piece of junk in case you opt out of the $6 per month voice recognition feature, it has an interactive 2-inch screen on the back.
Hopefully its learning and evolving communications software will give you a reason to invest in this little buddy. I guess Sharp has pushed the envelope a bit too far with pricing. Provided they have something extraordinary to offer with RoboHon, it will not have many takers I’m afraid.
