Endurance’s 3D printable SelfieBot offers professional dynamic video recording, stills
We have found a number of methods to click selfies or record videos, but still, we want something more sophisticated, at least something better than ‘Selfie Arm’. Even selfie sticks are replaced by accessories, like FlexCam. So, a Russian-American start up ‘Endurance’ has developed 3D printable DIY SelfiBot that enables users to create professional video recording of them with a mobile device. It sounds good for users looking forward to Skype video conferencing, video logs, lecture recordings etc.
SelfieBot has a number of features for video and photo capture which separates this 3D printed smartphone accessory from other similar products. Although, it looks and works like car hands-free, it can do additional stuff, like biplane rotation. SelfieBot comes with Arduino firmware and a dedicated mobile app. So, it can track user’s movement during recordings. That sounds really useful, isn’t so? The device offers dynamic video recording ability without any additional assistance from object or individuals. Endurance hopes it would work like user’s personal cameraman.
If you want one immediately, you can order a readymade unit for $199.
Further, the company is offering the SelfieBot as an open-source robotic project to interested educational institutes because it’s ideal for students of robotics.
Our mission is to educate and encourage students and others by creating a friendly robotics network and to empower them by providing the skills necessary to create and develop their own robots that will help people in the field of Education
The DIY kit contains STL files for 3D printing, Arduino firmware, APK file for Android, a CAD scheme along with a list of other components required. These components can be easily bought from online store, like eBay or Amazon.
Company has shared a detailed tutorial on assembly of the kit for assistance, and it makes it look like a walk in the park for even most amateur users.
