Just Eat’s robot delivers a surprised woman her takeaway meal
The complexion of food delivery to your doorsteps is changing gradually with the introduction of delivery robots. A few months ago we saw Domino’s pizza delivering robot make first appearance in Australia and New Zealand, and now it’s Greenwich in the news. Just Eat has delivered a takeaway meal to Greenwich resident Simone who ordered it from Turkish restaurant, Taksim Meze using the Just Eat app. The surprised woman was elated to see a droid on her doorstep, and describes it as something right out of a movie scene.
It is really incredible to think that this kind of technology and service is now available. It was very efficient and actually texted me when it pulled up. The only thing I wasn’t sure of is whether or not to tip!
Just Eat has partnered with Starship Technologies to develop this robotic food delivery droid which navigates its way around autonomously. In the test runs the robot can be taken over at any time by the human operator in the control center.
People in Greenwich can expect to see this robot at their doorstep in the coming days as Just Eat is planning to test the droid’s capabilities even more. It should go without saying that the robot has over 5,000 miles distance traveled under its belt.
The timing of this autonomous delivery robot is also perfect as holiday season is approaching. More people are going to order food online with Just Eat and the probability of this droid giving you a visit is really high.
Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director at Just Eat said;
Now that we are live in Greenwich, we’re working towards a larger rollout of the pilot program across London in the New Year.
