Lucid Motors Air – Powerful and luxurious Tesla killer in the making
Is it the Tesla killer in the making or just a hyped electric car which will bite the dust when it faces real world scenario? Meet Lucid Motors who have launched their super powered luxury EV at a company event in Fremont, California. This is not the first time that Lucid Motors is showing-off “Air” as they gave a glimpse of the powerful EV at LA Auto Show too. It is evident that the company not only wants to beat Tesla Motors with this future-forward venture, but also have a take on fuel-powered cars from manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes and Toyota.
The all-wheel drive Air is powered by dual motors producing 1,000 horsepower under the hood. This makes the luxury sedan go from 0-60 mph in just 2.5 seconds flat. Also, the powertrain of the EV has HVAC and suspension system on the front side, and the same setup is emulated in the rear with integrated transmission. The 130 kWh battery will make the car go for 400 miles on a single full charge.
Since everything is pushed to the edges, there is more room on the inside. Interiors of the car are as swanky as you can wish for. The front bucket seats and the huge rear seating space makes it a pleasure to sit in.
Apart from all the usual stuff, Air is going to come with semi-autonomous features thanks to the radar, Lidar and cameras. To give the riders a tech savvy environment, the car will have voice-controlled operation powered by Amazon Echo or Siri.
All that luxury and power comes at a massive price in excess of $100,000 with prices expected to be lowered once the EV goes into mass production. Production of Air will start in 2018 in the Arizona factory, and only then can one expect to have a full-blown review on the car.
