That’s the reason why this homemade Spitfire by 63-year old Alan James from England is so special. Embarking on this project was not easy for him as he had to search across Europe for the specialist parts required to make it. After putting numerous hours and almost £18,000 into building the homemade Spitfire, James now flies proudly in his aircraft. Mind you, it took him almost three years to build this masterpiece.

Almost all of us waste a lot of time in traffic while driving to work. While most of us think of having ways to fly to office, one man named Frantisek Hadrava of the Czech Republic has actually built a plane that he flies to work and back home. The 45-year-old Hadrava was tired of wasting 14 minutes driving to work, he decided he wanted a plane to cut that travel time at least in half. One such effort is underway at the National University of Singapore, where a group of engineering students have developed Snowstorm – a personal electric-powered flying machine. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. This idioms fits perfectly for 45-year old Saji Thomas who has made a fully-functional airplane from trash and recycled material. And mind you he is completely deaf and dumb from birth! That didn’t stop him from exploring his passion for creating model vehicles in his childhood, although the locals used to call him an idiot. Created by a Brit who is a diehard aviation fanatic, this super drone is a combination of 54 polycarbonate drones fitted into a metal frame, capable of lifting a full-grown adult off the ground and in the air. Youtube user [Gas Turbine 101] has named his creation “The Swarm” inspired by the sound all these drones make together which is more like the buzzing of bees around a beehive.

The record breaking attempt to fly around in a solar-powered plane has begun with the Solar Impulse 2 plane taking off from Abu Dhabi, Emirate with Andre Borschberg at the controls of the single-seated plane; and the next destination is Muscat in Oman. Both Andre and Swiss pilot, Bertrand Piccard will share the flying duty in this grueling journey. This epic journey across the globe will go on for more than five months is going to traverse through continents.
