Brain-controlled robotic hand allows quadriplegia patients to perform everyday tasks

Mind Controlled Robotic
Researchers have achieved breakthrough in development of a non-invasive, brain-controlled robotic hand that can regain ability to perform daily tasks for quadriplegia patients. The entire set-up is like an exoskeleton consisting of a robotic hand and a cap-like headgear that read brain signals and eye movement of the wearer. The best part is that it doesn’t require surgical implantation or any sort of wet gel to work. The exoskeleton was successfully tested in Spain on various subjects. Read More…

German researchers develop salt grain-sized 3D printed camera

salt grain-sized 3D printed camera

Team of PhD students led by Timo Gissibl and Simon Thiele at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, have developed a salt grain-sized camera, which could one day change the future of imaging in health and security. The camera is 3D printed, and it is small enough to fit into a standard syringe needle. Interestingly, the camera is fitted with a LED and three lenses and is attached to a 5.6 foot optical fiber that is just equal to the width of two hair strands. Read More…

Gel-based touchscreen brings up physical buttons on demand

GelTouch touchscreen with physical buttons-1

We all love the touchscreen displays; quite rightly, since buttoned phones are out of business, almost! How are you with the idea of a touchscreen display which reveals physical buttons when you need them and hides them away when not require? Sounds good? If it does, Researchers from Technische Universität Berlin in Berlin, Germany, have devised a touchscreen with layer of gel on top of it, which stiffens when heat is applied to it and softens when the heat cools off. This phenomenon makes it possible for the display to have temporary buttons, in any shape when needed and return to normal touch display later. Read More…

Pregnancy test with smartphone

Detecting pregnancy could very well be done with your smartphone in the future if we believe what is going on in Hanover Centre for Optical Technologies (HOT), University of Hanover, Germany. The researchers at this university have developed a prototype sensor for smartphone that is capable of detecting first signs of pregnancy and even diabetes. The fiber optic sensor in conjunction with a compatible app is going to monitor various body fluids like blood, urine, saliva or sweat and also analyze breath.

VC200 touted to be the world’s safest helicopter inspired aircraft

VC200 volocopter

Behold the very first volocopter in the world that has the capacity to hold two people. In fact, the German company had already crafted the planet’s first manned multicopter two years back. And, now they have made more developments to the core flying system with the successful unveiling of the VC200. One of these advancements would surely be related to the whopping 18 rotors, all of which are electrically driven. Overall, the aerodynamic design also goes by credible level of aesthetics, which is a big visual step from the earlier ‘makeshift’ scope (follow this image link) to a more refined ambit.

Gunbus 410 – A gargantuan 6730cc motorcycle with impressive specs

Gunbus 410 6730cc motorcycle

Yesterday, we talked about the robustness of the Wazuma trike. However, if we talk about imposing state of affairs, the above pictured Gunbus 410 motorcycle surely takes the honors. Gargantuan in every sense of the word, the impressive specimen was contrived by Clemens F. Leonhardt, founder and boss of Germany based Leonhardt Manufacturing. In terms of sheer dimensions, the Gunbus 410 exhibits a whopping 3,450 mm (or more than 11 ft) in length with a seat height of 800 mm. While these figures do not quite attain the ‘heights’ (no pun intended!) of the Regio Design XXL Chopper, there is a sense of realism behind the scope which further accentuates its impressiveness.
