Social Media was taken with surprise when Vitaly Bulgaro shared a video of a 4m tall and 1.5 ton heavy manned robot that can walk and mimic movement of the human controlling it, just like in James Cameron’s Avatar. The robot is still work-in-progress in South Korea. But for now the giant robot can be seen to move hands up and down, take steps and follow action of the human in the helm. Read More…

Atlas, the Boston Dynamics’ (now owned by Google) ace robot has improved a lot in the last couple of years owing to intense development. It has demonstrated successfully how to get up after being pinned down to the ground, and a whole set of new features which make it a pioneering innovation aimed for the tech dominated future. Now, the robot can walk on uneven terrain, and I mean really uneven terrain that would be hard for us humans to walk on.

Now, Chen Xiaoping from the University of Science and Technology of China unveiled what’s being claimed a humanoid robot with most realistic appearance and ability to display micro-expressions in Hefei on Friday. Not only do they seen to be going in the right direction, the robotics giant has so far developed a fleet of robots which are superior in their own rights. One of them is the Atlas humanoid robot which is by far the most advanced humanoid you’ll ever get to see. Over the last couple of years this humanoid has undergone nifty improvements and now thanks to the team at Boston Dynamics, it can lift heavy loads like a laborer and also pick itself up after being pushed down in a mob. Robots like Toshiba Android, beautiful looking Erica or the highly detailed Leonardo Da Vinci Android. Following suite, researchers at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore have developed a humanoid receptionist robot which looks strikingly human-like. Named as Nadine, the Android is doppelganger of Nadia Thalmann, a robotic professor at NTU’s School of Computer Engineering and creator of this robot.

They call it Android Geminoid F, and for some she is the sexiest robot on the planet. This is not the first time Geminoid F has made appearance as the humanoid robot also featured in Japanese movie ‘Sayonara’ which is a story on the after-effects of nuclear power plant meltdown.

At the opening day of Tokyo Motor Show 2015, Yamaha pulled up a surprise that caught everyone’s eye. They announced an autonomous motorcycle riding humanoid robot which is going to beat the best of MotoGP riders in the coming years. Yamaha like to call it Motobot and although it sounds something right out from the fiction movies, it is as real as it can get. Yamaha chose the 1000cc R1M motorcycle as the ride for this humanoid to drive on an abandoned airfield at hair-raising speeds.
