Drunk driving is a major issue for road safety and technology is hard at work trying to keep drunk drivers off the road. It becomes more of a concern for public transport vehicles and keeping this in mind a fleet of Canadian school buses have employed a sensor technology developed by Sober Steering, a Waterloo-based startup. This new kind of technology uses a touch-based biosensor which monitors the person driving the vehicle for any kind of alcohol consumption. The sensor is placed right on the steering wheel.

AlcoStop – Sensor embedded gadget that restricts drunk driving completely!


Drunk is the main cause for accidents worldwide and although there are breathalyzers to detect and prevent drunk driving, people find a way around this checkpoint, and law enforcement cannot check most of the drunk driving instances on a whole. A team of eight students from Mexico’s Institute of Technology of Cintalapa have a vision to eliminate drunk driving completely as they have developed AlcoStop prototype device. These five students include three students of renewable energy and five from computer engineering at the Institute of Technology of Cintalapa.

Jaguar Land Rover, British car manufacturer is working on a Bike Sense System to increase the on-road safety and reduce the number of accidents involving pedestrians, cyclists and motorcycle riders. The in-car warning system will use sensors to warn the drivers of unseen dangers such as detecting the movement of cyclists and pedestrians in a vehicle’s blind spots. The system will use number of different ways in order to caution the driver inside his own car such as playing the sound of a motorcycle horn or a bicycle bell, flash of light or using headrests that will tap on the shoulder of the driver.
